Krasnovodsk Gulf

 

a gulf of the Caspian Sea, extending 46 km into the sea’s southeastern shore. Its entrance is 18 km wide. It is separated from the sea by the Krasnovodsk and Severnaia Cheleken spits. The shores are very jagged and are bordered by drains over most of their length. The depths do not exceed 3.5 m. Salinity is 14–15 parts per thousand (in the northeastern part, up to 50 parts per thousand). The city and port of Krasnovodsk is on the northwestern shore. [13–983–]
