a city in Kirov Oblast, RSFSR, on the right bank of the Viatka, below the influx of the Moloma River, 87 km southwest of Kirov. An important wharf; a junction for railroad lines to Kirov, Gorky, and Bui and for highways. Population, 29,000 (1970). Kotel’nich has a meat combine, a creamery, a woodworking combine, and a furniture factory, knitted-wear and clothing factories, and metalworking plants. A cooperative technicum and a medical school are located in the city. There is a museum of local lore.
