Korichnoe
Korichnoe
(cinnamon), a Russian late-autumn variety of apple. The elliptic fruit is smaller than average or average in size (85-100 g). The skin is yellow with red spots and dark red stripes. The flesh is fragrant (the scent of cinnamon—hence the name), spicy, soft, and tart. The apples are eaten fresh or made into jam. They ripen in late August or early September; they are winter-hardy. The apple yield is 140-170 kg per tree. The variety is found in the central regions of the European USSR, the Middle Volga Region, Kirov Oblast, Perm’ Oblast, Vologda Oblast, Bashkir ASSR, and Udmurt ASSR. Other forms of the variety are korichnoe ananasnoe (cinnamon pineapple) and korichnoe kitaika (Chinese cinnamon).
