Kolpino
Kolpino
a city in Leningrad Oblast, RSFSR, under the jurisdiction of the Leningrad city soviet. Kolpino is located on the Izhora River (a tributary of the Neva). Railroad station, 26 km southeast of Leningrad. Population, 81,000 (1972). Industries include metalworking and machine building. The city has a building materials combine, a mica-processing factory, and a machine-casting plant. Kolpino has an evening branch of the Northwest Correspondence Polytechnic Institute and a metallurgical technicum. Kolpino arose in the early 18th century and became a city in 1912.
