Mediterranean Moray

(Muraena helena), a fish of the family Muraenidae. The body is eellike and naked; the dorsal and anal fins are well developed. The back is yellow with dark marbled spots, and the abdomen is brownish. The body is up to 1.5 m long and weighs up to 6 kg. The fish is distributed in the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It feeds on crustaceans, cephalopod mollusks, and small fish. The Mediterranean moray is fished locally.
