Lepiota a genus of mushrooms of subclass Hymenomy-cetes, the best known of which are L. procera (the parasol mushroom), which reaches 50 cm in height and has a scaly brownish cap, and L. excoriata, which reaches 10 cm in height and has a white or light scaled cap. Both species are found in the summer in cleared areas, fields, and thin growth, but the second is more often found in meadows and steppes.
