parallel computer[′par·ə‚lel kəm′pyüd·ər] (computer science) A computer that can carry out more than one logic or arithmetic operation at one time. parallel digital computer Parallel Computer a digital computer in which all operations on codes are ordinarily carried out for all digits simultaneously. There is a separate channel (code line, adder, and the like) for each digit of the digital codes used in the machine. Parallel digital computers are used when high computer productivity is more important than minimizing equipment requirements.
