Kirov Stadium
Kirov Stadium
(full name, S. M. Kirov Stadium), a stadium in Leningrad. One of the largest stadiums in the USSR, Kirov Stadium seats approximately 100,000. It is situated in the Primor-skii Park of Victory. The stadium, built between 1932 and 1950, was designed by A. S. Nikol’skii, K. I. Kashkin-Linde, and N. N. Stepanov (State Prize of the USSR, 1951).
The stadium is situated on an oval ring-shaped hill of alluvial material. The inner slopes have stands for the spectators and the outer slopes have 18 stairways and ramps; on the eastern side there is a double stairway flanked by two-story service pavilions.
