Linking Joshua Tree National Park and Mojave National Preserve, it follows the trails of the Chemehuevi people, a branch of the Southern Paiute, and also contains the longest undeveloped stretch of Route 66. Mojave Trails is home to desert tortoises, desert bighorn sheep, and fringe-toed lizards. The Cadiz Dunes, Cady Mountains, Pisgah Lava Flow, Amboy Crater, Bigelow Cholla Garden Wilderness, Marble Mountains Fossil Beds, and Afton Canyon are among the monument's many notable features.
