Mecsek
Mecsek
a massif in southwestern Hungary. Elevations reach 681 m (Mt. Zengő). The massif is composed of limestones, marls, and sandstones; karst is well developed. There are coal deposits. Oak and beech forests cover the mountains; orchards and vineyards are cultivated on the lower slopes. The Sikonda balneoclimatic health resort is located in the Mecsek Massif, which is also a center of tourism. The city of Pécs is at the southern foot of the massif.
