Mecistocirrus

(mē-sis'tō-sir'ŭs), A monotypic genus of trichostrongylid nematodes (subfamily Mecistocirrinae), with the single species, Mecistocirrus digitatus; it is not grossly distinguished from Haemonchus contortus and has about the same effect on the host. Mecistocirrus is distributed chiefly in Asia in cattle, sheep, buffalo, bison, the stomach of pigs, and occasionally in humans.
