LE cell

 a neutrophil or macrophage that has ingested the nuclear material of an injured cell, converted to a dense, homogeneous mass by reaction with antinuclear antibodies; this mass of nuclear material is called a hematoxylin body. This is a characteristic of systemic lupus erythematosus, but also found in analogous connective tissue disorders.

LE cell

a polymorphonuclear leukocyte containing an amorphous round body that is a phagocytosed nucleus from another cell plus serum antinuclear globulin (IgG) and complement; formed in vitro in the blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Synonym(s): lupus erythematosus cell

LE cell

(sel) A polymorphonuclear leukocyte containing an amorphous round body; formed in vitro in the blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, or by the action of the patient's serum on normal leukocytes.
