Kiev Civil Engineering Institute
founded in 1930. The institute has (1972) departments of construction, architecture, urban construction, sanitation engineering, automation of building production, and building technology, as well as two departments of general engineering in Kiev and Cherkassy. Other divisions include preparatory courses for foreign students, evening and correspondence courses, courses for the advanced training of teachers at higher and specialized secondary educational institutions, and a graduate school. There are 40 sub-departments, two special problems laboratories, four research laboratories in various fields, and a library with about 400,000 holdings.
In 1972 there were 9,000 students enrolled at the institute. Of the institute’s 580 instructors, 305 hold academic titles and degrees, including two members and a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and 28 professors and doctors of sciences. The institute has the right to confer doctoral and candidates’ degrees. Since its foundation, the Kiev Civil Engineering Institute has trained about 20,000 specialists. It publishes the periodicals Uchenye zapiski (Scholarly Transactions; since 1959) in both Ukrainian and Russian and Sb. nauchnykh trudov (Collected Scientific Works; since 1933).
