Base for Processing

Base for Processing

a prepared initial surface on an article or part which determines its positioning during processing. The proper selection of this base is necessary for the most efficient placement and attachment of parts in relation to the surfaces being processed and to the ease with which their dimensions can be set in accordance with the technical specifications. In the course of mechanical processing, the processing base can remain constant until the article has been completed or a new base can be established, depending on the configuration, special conditions, and the precision required. In the case of molded casings for machine parts, the base surfaces for further processing are provided for, as a rule, at the time of casting, in the form of lugs, bosses, projections, and so On.
