Blaramberg, Ivan Fedorovich

 

Born Apr. 8, 1800, in Frankfurt am Main; died Dec. 8 (20), 1878, in Simferopol’. Russian geodesist.

Blaramberg graduated from a university in Frankfurt am Main. After his arrival in Russia in the early 1820’s, he worked for the General Staff (from 1828). He took part (1835) in a diplomatic mission to Tehran. While in Iran he surveyed its territory as well as the shores of the Caspian Sea and compiled a catalog of astronomical and geodetic points in Russia. Blaramberg was the chairman of the special committee of the Russian Geographical Society which was created to compile and publish general maps of European Russia.
