Joseph Halévy


Halévy, Joseph

 

Born Dec. 15, 1827, in Adrianople, present-day Edirne; died 1917, in Paris. French Semitist.

Halévy studied the Semitic languages, epigraphy, and archaeology and did work in Assyriology and Biblical criticism. He deciphered and interpreted more than 600 Sabaean texts, which were published in Sabaean Studies (1875).
