Kalousek, Josef

 

Born Apr. 2, 1838, in Vamberk; died Nov. 22, 1915, in Prague. Czech positivist historian. Member of the Czech Academy of Sciences (1890).

From 1882 to 1908, Kalousek was a professor at Charles University. He wrote a number of monographs on Czech history (primarily medieval) and state law. From 1887 to 1913 he was editor of the Czech Archives, a collection of documents in which he published extremely rich factual material on the history of the Czech peasantry from the 14th through the 19th century.
