Hemiphractinae

Hemiphractinae

a subfamily of tailless amphibians of the family Hylidae. In contrast to individuals of the subfamily of true tree frogs, Hemiphractinae have cylindrical sacral diapophyses. They are distributed in the tropics of America. All Hemiphractinae exhibit a unique way of caring for their offspring: the female carries the fertilized eggs in a special cutaneous sac (pouch) on the back.
