ichthammol[′ik·thə·mȯl] (pharmacology) A viscid fluid obtained by the destructive distillation of certain bituminous schists, followed by sulfonation of the distillate and neutralization with ammonia; used as a weak antiseptic and stimulant in skin diseases, and occasionally as an expectorant. ichthammol
