Armenian Dramatic Theater
(full name, A. Mravian Armenian Dramatic Theater), located in Leninakan. Opened in 1928 with the performance of Mutiny after Furmanov.
The theater company was composed of actors of the local theater and graduates of the Armenian Drama Studio (Moscow). The director V. M. Adzhemian and the actors A. M. Armenian, V. K. Amerikian, L. B. Zorabian, and others have worked there. The theater has staged productions of the following works of classical and Soviet drama: Break by Lavrenev (1929), Morocco by Bagdasarian (1930), The Lower Depths by Gorky (1932), Highly Respected Beggars by Paronian (1934), Lenin by Kapler and Zlatogorova (1940), Twelfth Night by Shakespeare (1944), Krechinskii’s Wedding by Sukhovo-Kobylin, Ara the Beautiful by Zarian (1946), Ruined Home by Sundukian (1947), Brave Nazar by Demirchian (1965), and Evil Spirit by Shirvanzade (1968). The theater was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In 1969 the theater company included the People’s Artists of the Armenian SSR A. M. Aznaurian, A. N. Arzumanian, K. T. Artsrunian, M. S. Martirosian, A. B. Pashaian, and Zh. A. Tovmasian. The chief director is K. G. Sarkisian.
