Armenian Arsacids

(Arshakuni), royal dynasty (A.D. 62–428), related to the Parthian Arsacids. Founded by Tiridates I (ruled from 62 through 80; officially, from 66 through 80). Under Khosrov I the Great (217–238) the rule of the Arsacids became hereditary. Under Tiridates III the Great (287–332) Christianity became the official state religion of Armenia in approximately 301. The Armenian Arsacids struggled unsuccessfully for the independence of Armenia and against feudalistic fractionation. After the division of Greater Armenia (387) between Persia and Rome, the Armenian Arsacids became their vassals. The dynasty of the Armenian Arsacids fell in 428.
