(IDEA) (in'di-vij'yū-ălz dis-ă-bil'i-tēz ed'yū-kā'shŭn akt) U.S. federal law (Public Law 94-142, enacted in 1975 and subsequently amended) guaranteeing all students with disabilities, ages birth-21 years, the right to a free and appropriate public education designed to meet their individual needs.
