[′gran·yə‚līt ′fā·shēz] (petrology) A group of gneissic rocks characterized by a granoblastic fabric and formed by regional dynamothermal metamorphism at temperatures above 650°C and pressures of 3000-12,000 bars.

Granulite Facies

 

metamorphic rocks that formed as a result of regional metamorphism at great depths in almost anhydrous conditions. Granulite facies are represented by quartzose-feldspathic gneisses with garnets or pyroxene.
