Hare, Raymond A. (Arthur)

(1901– ) diplomat; born in Martinsburg, W.Va. Following consular appointments in the Middle East, he became ambassador to Saudi Arabia (1950), Lebanon (1953), Egypt (1956–60), and Turkey (1961–65). He was director-general of the Foreign Service (1954–56) and assistant secretary of state (1965–66). He was president of the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. (1966–69).
