bilateral straight leg raise test
bilateral straight leg raise test
A clinical test used to identify the bones and joints responsible for low back pain.Technique
The patient begins by lying supine with both knees extended; the examiner stands at the patient’s side with the distal arm supporting the heels and proximal hand on the subject’s thighs (anteriorly) to maintain knee extension. With the patient relaxed, the examiner slowly raises both legs until tightness or pain is noted.
Positive test
If low back pain occurs at < 70º of hip flexion, then the sacroiliac joint is responsible for the pain; if low back pain occurs at > 70º of hip flexion, then the lumbar spine is responsible for the pain.
