释义 | Henry Dilworth GilpinGilpin, Henry Dilworth(gĭl`pĭn), 1801–60, American public official, U.S. attorney general (1840–41), b. Lancaster, England. He practiced law in Pennsylvania and served as U.S. district attorney in that state. An ardent Jacksonian Democrat, Gilpin was solicitor of the Treasury Dept. (1837–40) and then was attorney general. Interested in literary and historical work, he edited the papers of James Madison (3 vol., 1840). |
