linguatulosis An acute upper respiratory tract infestation by the sheep liver fluke, Linguatula serrata, that occurs in Lebanon and Syria, due to ingestion of raw or improperly cooked goat and sheep liver containing viable 3rd stage larvae, which colonise the oropharynx, causing deafness by blocking the eustachian tube, episodic sneezing and coughing, haemoptysis, dysphagia, dysphonia, dyspnoea, and possibly death by closure of nasopharynx |
