a liman lake in Odessa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Lake Ialpug has an area of 134 sq km, an average depth of approximately 3 m, and a maximum depth of 6 m. The Ialpug River empties into the lake, which is linked by channels with Lakes Kugurlui and Kagul. Lake Ialpug is fed by snow and rain. In the course of a year, the water level varies by approximately 3 m, with the highest level between April and June and the lowest between December and February. The lake freezes over between November and January, and the ice breaks up in March. The city of Bolgrad is situated on the lake.
