noun Veterinary Pathology.

a contagious viral disease of sheep and goats and occasionally of humans, marked by vesicular and pustular lesions on the lips.
Also called contagious ecthyma, sore mouth.

1825–35; <Greek ékthȳma pustule, equivalent to ek-ec- + thȳ́(ein) to be angry + -ma noun suffix
