1932 A. C. Broders in Jrnl. Amer. Med. Assoc. 12 Nov. 1670/2 Carcinoma in situ is a condition in which malignant epithelial cells and their progeny are found in or near positions occupied by their ancestors before the ancestors underwent malignant transformation.
1939 Amer. Jrnl. Surg. 45 6/1 Martzloff prefers to designate these lesions ‘probable beginning epidermoid cancer’, while Broders favors the term ‘carcinoma in situ’.
