Etymology: modern Latin (coined in French by Sebald & Véron 1963, in Ann. Inst. Pasteur 105 907), < Greek καμπύλος bent: see bacter- (in bacterium n.).
Microbiology and Medicine.
A genus of microaerophilic bacteria including curved and spiral forms that frequently cause food poisoning in humans and abortion in some farm animals; (also campylobacter) a bacterium of this genus.
