Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin adulabilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin adulabilis flattering (4th cent.: see note) < classical Latin adūlārī adulate v. + -bilis -ble suffix.The expected sense of post-classical Latin adulabilis would be ‘able to be flattered’ but in the two passages in Ammianus which appear to be the only attestations of the word it seems to have the sense ‘flattering’.
Obsolete. rare.
Easily flattered.Only in glossaries.
