Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix1, dree v.
Etymology: < a- prefix1 + dree v.In Old English a strong verb of class II. In Old English the word had a wider range of senses than in Middle English, e.g. ‘to do, perform, to commit, to carry out, accomplish, to carry, to hold out, to tolerate' (compare senses of dree v.). Some Middle English instances may perhaps represent a variant of i-dree v.; compare a- prefix2.
Obsolete.
