Etymology: Variant or alteration of amortization n. (see ad- prefix), probably originally after either post-classical Latin admortization-, admortizatio, variant of amortizatio amortization n., or Middle French admortisation, admortization (1330). .In quot. 1883 at sense 1 apparently after Catalan admortizació, variant of amortització. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æ̆dmǭɹtizēi·ʃən) /ædmɔːtɪˈzeɪʃən/.

1753 Chambers's Cycl. Suppl. Admortization denotes the acquisition of lands, by a monastery, college, church, chapel, or even lay corporation.
