Etymology: < (i) Urdu zamīndārī (pronounced with either /a/ or /æ/ in the first syllable), and its etymon (ii) Indian Persian zamīndārī < zamīndār zamindar n. + , suffix forming abstract nouns.With the α. forms compare the α. forms at zamindar n. and the discussion at that entry. The form jemindary (with initial j-) reflects a colloquial Urdu pronunciation.
