Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps related to Joe Zilch , a name used for an unknown or inconsequential person ( < the male forename Joe (see Joe n.2) + Zilch , perhaps a variant of Zilsch , a surname of Central European origin; compare John Doe n.).
