Etymology: Japanese, < ya eight + ku nine + za, sa three (see below).
A Japanese gangster or racketeer; usually in plural sense, such people collectively. 8–9–3 is the worst set of cards in a player's hand at a gambling game: hence, the worst sort (K. Koike).
