Etymology: < French xanthique, < Greek ξανθός yellow: see -ic suffix.
1. Chemistry. Epithet of certain compounds which produce substances of a yellow colour, or of bodies connected with these.
a. xanthic oxide, the original name of xanthine n.; so xanthic calculus, a urinary calculus containing xanthine.
