Etymology: < French âme damnée person slavishly devoted to another (1690), figurative use of âme damnée soul which is in hell (c1400 or earlier in Middle French as ame dampnee ) < âme soul (end of the 9th cent. in Old French as anima , 10th cent. as aneme , c1100 as anme ; < classical Latin anima soul, spirit: see anima n.) + damnée , feminine of damné (see damned adj.).Not fully naturalized in English. In plural form âmes damnées after the French plural form.
A person slavishly devoted to another, and willing to carry out onerous (and sometimes disreputable) services on his or her behalf; a puppet; a tool.
