Obsolete (rare after Middle English).
Ruling, governing; powerful. See also all-wielding adj. N.E.D. (1924) included a noun sense ‘ruler, governor’ exemplified by the following quot.:
?c1500 Mary Magdalene (Digby) l. 1832 I be-leve In þe father, þat is of all wyldyng.
However, wielding here is now usually regarded as meaning ‘power’; cf. wielding n. 1.
In quot. 1910 translating the Old English noun wealdend lord (see waldend n.).
