单词 burian
释义

buriann.

Forms: Forms in sense 1: Old English byrgen, Middle English berien, burien.
Etymology: Old English byrgen strong feminine has no parallel forms in the other Germanic languages, but represents a West Germanic *burginnja , < ablaut-stem burg- (borg- ) of *berg-an bergh n. to protect + innja (compare burden n.). But evidence is wanting as to the identity of this with the local Scots burian, which is not associated with it in sense.
Obsolete exc. Scottish.
1. A tomb, sepulchre. Obsolete.
