Etymology: < Latin verso (sc. folio leaf), ablative singular neuter of versus, past participle of vertĕre to turn. So French verso, Portuguese verso.
1. The back of a leaf in a manuscript or printed book; the side presented to the eye when the leaf has been turned over. Also abbreviated v., vo.The left-hand page of a book is the verso of that leaf, and faces the recto adv., n., and adj. of the next.
