1823 ‘J. Bee’ Slang Shake-bag match—in cocking; the fighting adventitiously, or guessing at weights and pairing, while the fowls are still in their respective bags. ‘A Shake-bag fellow’, if he be no pick-pocket, is at least a seedy cove.
