Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French regional (northern) aclos-, stem of aclore to enclose (first half of the 12th cent.), of uncertain origin, either < a- a- prefix⁵ + clore close v., or a variant of enclore (see enclose v.), or perhaps < post-classical Latin acclaudere to enclose (c1140 in a British source) < classical Latin ac- ac- prefix + claudere to shut (see claudent adj.).
