Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ἄκλαστος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἄκλαστος unbroken ( < ἀ- a- prefix6 + κλαστός broken: see clastic adj.) + -ic suffix. Compare earlier anaclastic adj. 2, and also diaclastic adj. at diaclasis n. Derivatives.
Physics. rare.
Of a substance: transparent but not refracting light that passes through it; not refractive.
