1867 E. L. Layard Birds S. Afr. 11 Verreaux's eagle is not uncommon throughout the colony, wherever rocky precipitous mountains are to be found.
1903 A. C. Stark Birds S. Afr. III. 293 Verreaux's Eagle is found in the highlands of Abyssinia and Shoa and reappears in South Africa.
1952 Mackworth-Praed & Grant Birds E. & N.E. Afr. I. 167 Verreaux's Eagle,..a large black Eagle, having the back, rump and inner webs of the flight feathers white.
1967 M. J. Coe Ecol. Alpine Zone Mt. Kenya 108 Verreaux Eagle (Aquila verreauxii Lesson). Not common. One pair was seen.
