Etymology: < ancient Greek ἀδελϕός brother ( < ἀ- , copulative prefix ( < an ablaut variant (zero-grade) of the Indo-European base of same adj.) + δελϕύς womb < the same Indo-European base as Sanskrit garbha, Avestan garəβa- womb, fetus, and also Avestan gərəbuš- young of an animal) + -ous suffix.

Botany. Now rare.

Of stamens: partially united by their filaments into one or more groups; (also of flowers) having stamens with this arrangement.Cf. diadelphous adj., monadelphous adj. 1, polyadelphous adj., etc.
