uranium yellow n. (a) a bright lemon-yellow colour characteristic of some uranium compounds; frequently attributive; (b) a yellow uranium-containing compound or pigment; spec. sodium diuranate, Na₂U₂O₇·6H₂O, formed as a precipitate by adding sodium hydroxide to a solution of uranyl sulphate and formerly used in making yellow glass (cf. yellowcake n.).
