Etymology: < un- prefix1 + staff v..The following earlier quotation probably shows an isolated example of a different formation with the sense ‘that has been removed from staff’ ( < un- prefix2 + staff n.1 + -ed suffix2):1858 Standard 20 Apr. 5/3 Like others of the unstaffed ‘refuse’ of your Presidency—he had only to come to these parts to be highly appreciated.
