1. transitive. Chiefly depreciative. To deprive or divest (a person) of the characteristics, attributes, or qualities traditionally or popularly associated with his or her sex. Frequently reflexive: to behave in a manner contrary to what is traditionally expected or accepted of one's sex. Cf. desex v. 1a.More typically used of women than of men.
